At 10:02 AM, Sr. Joey Deroo had to work on a product design. He decided to make a sleepy hoodie with comfortable pads. Students are making inventions and hoping their ideas will be created in the future. As in the art room, this is a place where imagination becomes real. Students brainstormed ideas on what products to make, like an overextending hair clip for thick hair. There could be problems that needed to be solved, or they just wanted to make something for fun.
First, students had to make many sketches for an idea. Once they found an idea, they would draw multiple sketched views. One or two-point perspective is often used to give a sense of depth and realism. Then, they made the final sketches using ink and colored them. Next, they put them on an illustration board. Finally, they had to create mockups of their designs. They had to make a scale or full-size model.
Andy DeWitt enjoyed ice cream very much. But he struggled with scooping out ice cream that was too frozen. He wanted to figure out how to scoop ice cream more easily. Then, he created a heated ice cream scooper. It would be heated to scoop the ice cream that was too frozen to scoop out. He thought of something interesting and added spikes to it. He then sketches the spikes and adds a grip on the handle. Sketched the connector from the bottom of the scooper and the heat added on the pad. The spike scooper can be adjusted, and it has a charger port and a fast charger. For his mockup, his ice cream scooper is colored blue, and the charger port and fast charger are black.
Sr. Joey Deroo wanted to sleep in a specific class. He thought the class was boring and only played videos. He wanted to sleep more comfortably somehow. An idea came, and he created a hoodie with comfortable pads. He thought this would help him sleep more cozily. He sketched a person wearing the hoodie and one sleeping with it. He showed the padding in the sleeves with a small bulk. Sketched that it has a movable inner padding for any napping position. He added a lot of tissue for his mockup.
Sr. Gabe Rios liked listening to music a lot and used Bluetooth. But he wanted to add more features and make it easier to carry. He created a portable Bluetooth speaker that can be used with earbuds or as a speaker. It’s called SONY SEB-WX1000. He sketched it to be a rectangle with a slight dark blue and added buttons. He sketched a touch-sensitive scroll wheel and a non-touchscreen display. Then, he colored his mockup purple and added the brand Sony to it. It also has a lot of black dots on the top and bottom.
Sr. Ezzie Gugino, who had trouble with average hair clips. No matter how much she folds, twists, ties, or scrunches her hair, the average hair clip doesn’t seem to hold all of her hair. She then wanted to make an overextending hair clip, named Clawdia. She noticed that the average hair clips are too small to open and have a weak spring. She sketched them to be larger and have a stronger spring. It has an extended spring so the clip can open wider and hold the whole head of hair. The mockup of the hair clip is colored purple and larger. And it has a gray spring inside the clip.
“I love Clawdia. She made this because her hair is thick, and she needed something stronger to hold her hair. I like the name Clawdia,” said Brad Vredevoogd.
Some people are tired or sore after working out in the gym. Marvel Correa Morales wanted them to go down the gym stairs faster, but how? She thought of a fun idea to add slides in schools! She wanted the slides in the middle of the stairs that lead from the lifting room and track. She sketched the slides on the stairs, which were colored blue. There’s also a backup slide. She sketched the railings too, so people don’t accidentally fall in. Items can also be slid down. For her mockup, she used cardboard and turned it into stairs. Then she added paper on top of it and turned it into a slide.
“I liked the slides in school idea. It’s a fun idea, the way they made the stairs and slide is super good,” said Brad Vredevoogd.
