Walking into the lunchroom, I repeatedly saw the same four shoes. Near the table I sat at, I saw 8 Adidas Sambas, 6 New Balances, 7 Jordans, and 11 Uggs. But how long can we keep wearing the same trends and items? A new year is coming up, and soon, it will be out with the old and in with the new. But what will the upcoming trends be?

Shoes 

   Uggs are classic and will continue to be popular, especially during the fall season. However, a new version may appear or take off. The Lowmel sneaker version has been popular online but has not been seen in person much yet. Will that be the new mini-ugg? It’s a possibility. Sambas will still be seen often, but some new sneakers will pop on the scene. Adidas and Nike have both had huge moments with the Jordans and Sambas, but Puma is going to have theirs next. The Puma Speedcat sneaker is simple and has many colorways, with a still recognizable look. 

Hair & Makeup

   2025 will be all about looking cool but effortless. Short hair will make a comeback, and cool details like bangs or layers will add fun and flair. While some people will always prefer a dewy, glowy makeup look, matte finishes will take the lead in popularity. Expect to see light eyeshadow and thin or natural eyebrows almost everywhere. 90s and 2000s-inspired styles, featuring lined lips and smokey eyes for special occasions, will return once again. 

Denim

   Hate them or love them, skinny jeans are coming back. Influencer Alix Earle was seen wearing them and the video sent TikTok into a spiral. Baggy or straight-leg jeans have been the prime of fashion for a few years now, with a lot of hate and ridicule directed towards tight jeans, but the tides appear to be turning. While unlikely that looser jeans will go out completely, a wider variety of styles will be considered cool. As far as shorts go, 2024 was certainly a year with many long denim shorts (jorts), or “jorts” as they are commonly referred to. After seeing so many of these long and baggy shorts, society is going to head to the other extreme with mini-shorts and skirts taking off once again. 

General

   In 2025, fashion will embrace a new blend of textures, styles, and colors. Silk will be taking over, especially in dresses.  Expect to see lacey details add a touch to outfits, making them stand out in a crowd. Simple jewelry pieces will become essential, as people will favor minimalism over excess. Fringe details will also make a statement, giving movement and flair to jackets and bags. Polka dots and plaid will be all over tops and jackets. Lastly, fur will return as a popular accent, adding warmth and sophistication to winter styles.
