In a world where creativity knows no bounds, Lizzie Holstege stands as a testament to the limitless possibilities of imagination. With excitement in her eyes and a passion for building, she has elevated LEGO bricks into an art form.
For Holstege, LEGO isn’t just a toy but a gateway for endless innovation and expression. From towering skyscrapers to flower bouquets, each LEGO creation she makes tells a story and reflects the ideas and imaginations of her mind.
Behind every masterpiece lies hours of dedication and attention to detail. With nimble fingers and an eye for detail, Holestege transforms ordinary bricks into architectural achievements. Whether she is recreating iconic landmarks and buildings or crafting her object from imagination, her imagination knows no limit.
But her love for LEGO building goes beyond the realm of constructing her works. It’s a journey of self-expression and a break for the brain. As Holestege deals with type 1 diabetes, she has found peace in building. Building gives her time to get out of her head and let her ideas flow. She gets to have a break from reality to enjoy creating her works. “There are times when I had bad migraines and my eyes hurt, so there was nothing for me to do. Building helps with that, I am not putting so much on my eyes and working my brain. I can put my phone down and be in the moment.” Once she starts building, she won’t stop until she has completed it. Whether it takes her all night or all day, she will build until her hands can’t take it anymore. Through LEGO, she finds joy, relaxation, and fulfillment that transcends the ordinary.
“I noticed her get more and more into building them which made me happy. It keeps her busy and gives her a break from reality. I have seen she is more happy and less tired and sick,” Mom Wendy Holstege said.
Beyond the bricks and masterpieces, Holstege is a community builder at heart. Her infectious enthusiasm and boundless creativity inspire others like me to embrace their inner child and embark on their own LEGO adventures. Her most recent build was a rain boot with a flower bouquet. She says she enjoyed building that one the most because there were different objects she could make out of one package of LEGOs. Her favorite piece from her collection would have to be the house from the movie “Up”. Mr. Holestege worries about the financial aspect of her hobby. With LEGOs being more expensive today, she has to limit herself to how much she is buying.
“She can spend her own money however she wants, but at times I need to limit her to how much she is buying. She will finish them in two days max and then try to go buy more”, he tells me. But he is overall happy that she has found joy in something that doesn’t use brain activity.
In a world that can often move too fast, Holstege reminds us to slow down and savor the simple joys of life and to find beauty in the unexpected. Through her passion for LEGO, she invites us to dream, create, and believe that anything is possible. So here’s to Holstege, the master builder whose imagination knows no bounds. As she continues to build, innovate, and inspire, her LEGO collection grows bigger.
