Teachers at West Ottawa High School have volunteered to dye, shave, or modify their hair if they raise a certain amount of money. All donations will go to Dance Marathon to benefit the children at the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.
Mrs. Heemstra will dye her hair pink if $500 is donated to her.
Mrs. Kirkendall will dye her hair purple if $300 is donated to her.
Mr. Brown will grow his hair out for a year if $365 is donated to him.
Mrs. Bentley will dye her hair blonde if $300 is donated to her.
Mr. Halloran will dye his hair green if $300 is donated to him.
Mrs. McCrumb will dye her hair blue if $400 is donated to her.
Mrs. Howard will dye her hair purple if $500 is donated to her.
Mr. Mandrick will shave his head and set it on fire if $300 is donated to him.
Mr. Detter will shave his head if $300 is donated to him.
Mr. Clark will shave his head if $50 is donated to him.
Mr. Drnek will dye his goatee if $500 is donated to him.
Lastly, Sr. Ben Snoek will buzz his hair if he raises $1,500. Snoek has been growing out his hair since 6th grade. He has also been nominated for a senior superlative for best hair.
Snoek said, “This unique fundraising opportunity not only benefits Helen Devos Children’s Hospital but is also an answer to the prayer of many West Ottawa students over the past four years who have called for my baldness, an endeavor so grand that it would seemingly require divine movement. I fearlessly confess that my only trepidation is that I will experience a fate similar to the mighty Samson, who has deceived and lost his hair, the source of all of his power. Nevertheless, I would be happy to lose my hair if the children would gain from it. I wish the students and staff of West Ottawa the best of luck as they strive to make #baldben a reality.”
You can make your donation at both lunches in either building. Ben also carries a donation bin. There are donation containers in each of the teachers’ rooms who have volunteered to alter their hair.
