Pong is back

Pong is back

Connor Panse

With no time to pay attention to the brand new hole in the wall, Sr. Jared Arvidson swings with a force that would make Babe Ruth rethink his life choices. Sr. Drew Behrendt swings back, with not an ounce of grace to be found in his return. A direct result of his lack of finesse, on the previous point, Behrendt sent his paddle flying into the wall. The ball ricochets back and forth across the table with an addictive rhythm that inspired a certain Enrique Iglesias song eight years ago. A whole two spectators look on in great anticipation, their tracking heads whipping side to side like clockwork. Nobody present has the slightest clue as to how the rally will turn out, let alone the match. Behrendt sets up his next shot and as soon as he hits the ball, he realizes his fatal mistake. The ball is lobbed slowly and cleanly to Arvidson’s right side, who slams it down with ease across the table for the point and the lead. The less than sparse crowd was lively and loud, audibly ripping into Behrendt with a flurry of insults and mockery. Behrendt, however, was undeterred by the loss, because only one thing was on his mind: Pong is back.

No longer a distant dream, WO Pong is finally returning from a summer-fall hiatus for the 2015-16 school year. The first meeting will be Tuesday, November 17 right after school in the North Building LGI room, located downstairs in the east hallway of the academic wing. Consecutive meetings will be the same time, same place, so everyone can cancel any Tuesday plans they have from now on, as pong is clearly more important. Make sure you’re packing your own paddle so you can roast the other players in style, although there will be a few extras if needed. After the club’s long absence, it’s again time to grab your paddles and balls and prove that you possess the ping pong prowess to call yourself champion. It’s time for WO Pong.
