“I started my football Journey in Rocket Football. I didn’t take it seriously then, but when I came to West Ottawa in middle school, I was too scared to play because I had just moved from Aruba. So it wasn’t until freshman year that I gained the confidence to join. After just three games, I was promoted to varsity. Freshman year was just a learning game for me. It was hard learning how to play with and against teams much older than and bigger than me. Sophomore year was when I could see my potential. I spent most of my time that year training and trying to surpass expectations. Junior year was the most important year for me, I spent a lot of time just trying to get in the right mindset. I think that’s what set me into the mode to be able to dominate that season. My senior year was an upset. I didn’t do as well as I preferred, but I still had that same mindset going in, and I’m going to continue having that mindset. I had a couple of offers and was thinking about where I wanted to commit. I fell on Wayne State, and I think the main reason I chose to commit to Wayne was because of their head Coach, Tyrone Wheatley. He was a former Michigan running back as well as one in the NFL, so I’m hoping he can become a mentor. It’s never been easy, but having people around me to encourage and keep my spirits up has helped,” Sr. Kayden Forbes.
