“I moved to the United States because of my dad’s work when I was in fourth grade. I was sad because I had two close friends in South Korea, I couldn’t see for like four years, I also had all of my family in South Korea. Also, I was a little scared about America because I saw news in South Korea saying there was a murder and they had lots of guns. When I first got to school, I didn’t talk to anyone because I didn’t know English. I didn’t talk at all for like three years. In fifth grade, I followed people around at recess until they let me into their group. I started talking to my friends around seventh grade about Fortnite. And I kept talking to my friends and my English kept improving, so I can solve questions more easily, and I can understand more easily. I go by Robin instead of Jeongwon because it is difficult for teachers to pronounce my real name. I chose that name when we first moved here. I just chose Robin because I thought it was a very popular name in Michigan, like Robin Hood and Robinson, but lots of people say Robin is a girl’s name,” Sr. Jeongwon Park said.
