Volleyball
From the volleyball team, Magaly Lemus states a memory from the 2024-2025 season that she won’t forget is when they broke the first day of school losing streak. “Our first quad of the season, on the first day of school, was against Grandville, Unity Christian, and one other school. I was very excited because in the past years we had always lost against every team we played on the first day of school, l was really happy.”
Emmy O’Connell also shares a memory of the tournament on the day of homecoming. “A moment I won’t forget was the tournament we had on homecoming. Our pool play went until 2pm and then we had to wait for the lunch break. We won all three of our games in the morning and then we had to wait for a court to open up because we still had to play a 4th game. We won the 4th game and then had to wait again for this one game to be done so we had to ref. It was around 3:30 at that time and everyone had already planned something to do for homecoming at like 5 and we were still stuck at jenison, which is about 30 minutes away. We ended up losing the last game because we weren’t really trying that much. After the game we all ran out of the school so fast. We barely even took our shoes and gear off and barely made it back in time for our plans.”
Football
From the football team, Makai Campos shared his memorable moment from the homecoming game. “One experience from this season that I won’t forget was the first three touchdowns against Jenison during the homecoming game. The atmosphere and energy from the student section was fun to be in, I felt excitement being on the field.”
Also from the football team, Connor Knapp explains a moment from this season that he won;t forget is his winning play. “An experience from this season I won’t forget is when we beat Jenison and I got the game winning interception and jumped up into the student section and celebrated. I was at a high, I didn’t even know what to do, I was just celebrating. I was ecstatic.”
Soccer
On the Varsity soccer team, Cris Mora shares a memorable moment with his team. “Going to team dinners and playing basketball and soccer after dinner with my team was one of the experiences from my season that I won’t forget.”
Cheerleading
Captain of the cheerleading team, Giana Hughes’s memorable moment is when she changed positions. “An experience I wouldn’t forget from this season is becoming a base and a flier this year. I really wanted to only fly this year but then my coach moved me down to base and she wouldn’t put me in an actual stunt group, she just put me with whoever was available.”
Water Polo
Corbin White’s experience that he will never forget is one of his best plays. “During our first tournament. I wasn’t a goalie at that time, but after the first half, the coach decided to put me in the cage. I had no clue what I was doing. The first shot attempt came from a shooter on the other team, he was scoring last quarter so I knew he was good. He came right up to the goal thinking it would be an easy shot but once he put up the ball for the shot I stuffed him and my team got the ball back.”
Swimming
Olivia Zwiers’ experience she will never forget is when she had to compete last minute. “The swim season on the conference meet you have to be top 24 to qualify for the second day, there’s two days. I was top 28 but like five people ended up dropping out, so I didn’t know I was top 24 until the day of. It was 3 minutes before my event and I hadn’t warmed up and I didn’t have my tech suit on. I remember my coach ran up to me and he was like Olivia you’re in the event cuz you’re on the sheet and i was so scared. I got in the water and I added 4 seconds and I wanted to cry but I was really proud of myself because I actually did it and that was the worst case scenario.”
Tennis
Brody Sayrath shares an experience from this season that he won’t forget is losing after being undefeated. “An experience with tennis is probably losing in the finals at our home tournament after being undefeated for a long time but it motivated me to become a better tennis player and not let anything get to my head and honestly just learn to move on if I miss a bad shot and I’ll still try to win.”
Lukas Woudwyk’s experience that he will never forget is when his teammate tripped while playing. “One moment from tennis I will always remember is when we had a joint practice with Holland Christian and we were ending the day with a fun game. An opponent from the other team hit a shot with a ton of spin and was traveling left while in the air. To accommodate for the spin on the ball a player on our team shuffled backwards and sideways at the safe time. Once the ball landed, all the spin flew the ball off to the left and our teammate’s shuffle turned into a run. However, the run didn’t last long because his feet tangled with one another and he fell backward. His feet were still up in the air and he landed right on his butt. Luckily he kept his head up and there were no severe injuries, but it will be a moment I will always remember from my first year on The Boys Varsity Tennis Team.”
