Last night, West Ottawa’s students and staff pulled out their cameras to capture the night sky. The northern lights were faintly visible with the naked eye, but they popped when viewed on camera.
“I would say with my camera that it’s amazing that you see it all, even though it’s not something you can see with your eyes, at least from where I was. It was really good and everyone was posting about it,” Instructor Kevin Klassen said.
“It was like you couldn’t see it very well but you can notice something in the sky. It was colored, darkish clouds. When I pulled out my camera I used the nighttime setting and you could actually see the stripes and the colors and everything; it was interesting,” Frosh. Hernan Cortez said.
“It was good and magical,” Sr. Gabe Garcia said.
“So I was at the beach at Tunnel Park last night and it was really pretty. All these colors like purple and green and taking pictures was cool but like seeing it with my eyes was better because it was more vivid it was beautiful,” Frosh. Derek McLean said.
“Going out to see the Northern Lights was a surreal but sort of underwhelming experience based on images I have seen in the past. I was expecting a grand scene of various colors and lights in real life. It was just an area like green shaded sky or reddish shaded sky,” Jr. Joel Cosgrove said.
“It was a cool experience both ways but the colors were more vibrant through the camera and distinguished compared to the naked eye, where it was kind of foggy,” Jr. Kaleb Morley said.
