“Last year my buddies and I were coming back from a grad party and a guy pulled out in front of our car. We were going about 60 mph and t-boned his car. I ended up in the ditch off the side of the road after hitting the other car twice. I was very lucky there were no permanent injuries. Although, my legs got all scratched up, my head got scratched up. My legs were gushing blood. After the accident it hurt to walk; I couldn’t really bend my knees, and I had to wear bandages all over. This happened during my favorite time of the year — golf season. I was having a stand-out season, ranking second in the entire OK-Red individually. The real test after the accident was trying to swing a golf club. I soon found out I couldn’t rotate my back at all and my legs were still very sore. I had to modify my swing to reduce the pain. Two days after the crash was the OK-Red Post-Season Tournament. I went out to the first hole and gave it everything I had, knowing how important this tournament was for myself and the team. I ended up shooting a score of 4 over par 76 and placed third in the whole tournament, missing first place by a single stroke. I learned so much from this experience and was able to overcome adversity. I finished the season at the top of my conference and achieved the all-conference award,” Sr. Carson Witvoet said.
