Jr. Taevien Balulis put on his Lions sweatshirt and his Aidan Hutchinson jersey and got ready to watch the Detroit Lions. Years ago he would have been ready to see a loss, but now he is more than excited to watch the Lions possibly win.
Detroit’s football team has been incompetent for years. Their fans have been disappointed season after season, and the Lions are widely known as one of the worst teams in the NFL. They have also been known to ‘waste talent’, such as players like Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Overall, most people believe the Lions to be an abomination, but not any more. This last season, Detroit has made some major changes, and it has shown. Recently, the Lions have signed, drafted and traded for some good players like Jamyrr Gibbs and Amon Ra St. Brown to name a few.
Balulis is a big Lions fan. “The defense has significantly improved, and free agency signings really helped out the team quite a bit. Even though all the injuries kind of run it down, the team is still winning. The offense is still as good as last year, maybe even better.” Balulis loves his team and watches every game. “I have been watching the Lions for years so I’m paying more attention to how they might do in the playoffs. I’ve been invested for years and it’s definitely more enjoyable to watch them. I feel like watching them and knowing that they have the potential to do well in the playoffs has definitely kept me more invested.” Balulis is even more excited for the future. “I’m a whole lot more excited to watch the Lions and look to the future and see the next games. I can finally look at future games and think ‘yes we can win that game’ instead of ‘that could go either way’ or ‘we’re probably going to lose’.”
As of week eight, the Lions are 6-2. A good start to the season that shows some promise. With a bright future ahead and possibly a chance at the playoffs, the Lions are turning heads and truly shocking the nation. With their new powerhouse Running Backs Jamyrr Gibbs and David Montgomery, their Wide Receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds, and their Tight End, Sam LePorta, the Lions look good on paper, and even better on the field. For the first time in years, the Detroit Lions are showing some promise and potential.
