Kayleigh Dannels is a Junior at West Ottawa High School who loves going to concerts.
How many concerts have you been to?
“I’ve been to 50 concerts in the past two years! My first concert was in March of 2022 when I saw Greta Van Fleet in Kalamazoo!”
Which concert was your favorite?
“I think my favorite concert was when I saw Greta Van Fleet (for the third time) in Detroit, because they’re my favorite band and we had third row on my favorite members side! He also gave me his last rose when he was heading back to the main stage and I got to touch the lead singer’s hands! Definitely one of the best nights of my life!”
What makes a concert good? What makes it great?
“To me, concerts are such a fun experience in general, even if you don’t know all of the songs by the artist! I’ve gone to concerts only knowing a few songs by the artist because my parents wanted to see them, and even then I have so much fun dancing, singing, and overall connecting with music. It is such a thrilling experience being in a room full of people who like the same music/artist as you and have all gathered for the same reason.”
How has going to concerts impacted your life?
“I feel like going to all these concerts has not only widened my range of music and taste in music, but it’s also helped me get through life for the past years. After the pandemic I found myself feeling more lost and was struggling, but once I bought my tickets for Greta I had something to look forward to and sometimes concerts have been the reason for me to keep going and continue. I’ve made some great friends through concerts. I went to Cleveland to see Greta Van Fleet with a friend I met at a concert in Toledo and 2 other girls I met through Greta Van Fleet! Music has always been a big part of my life and it is one of my main ways of self expression, and being able to sing and see the artists who have made the songs that helped me through hard times is such a surreal experience! I am so thankful I have the opportunity to be able to go to so many places and see so many artists. I’m also thankful I have parents who support me and allow me to see my favorite artists! If you’re ever given the chance to see a concert, even if you don’t know the artist very well, you should go!”
